charitable giving

2016

Through the passage of time we have come to realize the fragility of this beautiful life and the value of an opportunity, when it presents itself, when we can support and give back in to those people and causes that need our help in any way we can. Each year Salts of the 7 Seas selects several worthwhile organizations that we believe in and want to support. This year we are pleased to make donations from the profits of our sales to the following very special and well managed charitable organizations.

how to be an effective mental health advocate

Andy’s Cheesecakes cookbook was created in memory and in tribute to Andrew Senn by his parents. Andrew lost his nine-year battle with bipolar disorder and addictions and died August 2, 2014 at age 39. NAMI of Minnesota, where Andy worked at the time of his death, was a source of support and resource for him and has since become a favorite cause for Andy’s family. The cookbooks are being sold for $15, with 100 percent of the profits going to NAMI Minnesota’s programs of education, support and advocacy.

I had the very real honor of meeting Andy’s mother at a mutual friend’s home this summer while visiting them in Dublin, Ohio. Hearing the story about her son’s battle with bipolar disease made me realize how much we all need to be so much more aware of these very serious mental health issues and how desperately the afflicted and their families need our advocacy to help change laws and increase funding to get much needed help for so many struggling with these life-threatening challenges.
